Foil has its advantages over paper colouring strips also.  When colour is applied to the hair, a chemical reaction causing heat occurs and a metal alloy, such as aluminium, retains the heat far better than paper.  Additionally, to prevent the colour product from undesirable expanding the ends of the foil sheets can be closed, whereas paper cannot.  A further disadvantage with paper, due to its absorbency, is the oil and colouring mixture tend to separate, whereas with foil, separation does not occur, leading to a superior result.
